Find out about the advantages of using public transport
Most students at Australian Catholic University rely on public transport. If you are new in town, it can sometimes be a bit challenging to find out the best ways to get around the city. Therefore, I put together a few tips, hints and links that will hopefully make your life a bit easier:
Sydney
If you come from the city, you will have to take a train to Strathfield station (the trains to Inner West, Northern, North Shore and Western and South stop there). From the station you can take a bus to the campus: services 407 and 483 take you from Strathfield Plaza directly the campus’s main entrance on Barker Road. Additionally, there is a free ACU Shuttle Bus from the campus to Strathfield’s Train Station and vice versa.
You can get to the North Sydney campus via bus, train, and even ferry! Multiple bus services get you there from the CBD, from Manly, Chatswood and Lane Cove. If you take a train from the city (either North Shore or Northern line), you will be there in no more than 10 minutes.
Visit the websites of Sydney Buses and CityRail to get more information on public transport in Sydney.
Brisbane
The best way to get around Brisbane is via train or bus. To get to campus you can take a Shorncliffe line train from the city to Banyo Station. If you take a bus from the city, it will take you about an hour to get to campus. You can also travel on the ACU Shuttle Bus from Toombul or Northgate stations to the campus.
Visit the TransLink website to find out more details about public transport in Brisbane.
Canberra
You have to take the bus if you want to get to ACU’s Canberra campus, but you can choose from two different companies:
You can either take an ACTION bus from Dickson (route 2 and 39), or take a Deane’s service from Civic to Queanbeyan.
Visit ACTION buses or Deane’s buslines online to get more information on public transport in Canberra.
Ballarat
In Ballarat, the best way to get around is by bus. If you want to travel to Melbourne, you can simply jump on a train and you’ll be there in little more than an hour.
Visit the website of Davis Bus Lines for the bus services in Ballarat, and VLine for more information on train services to Melbourne and elsewhere.
Melbourne
There are various ways to get to ACU’s Melbourne campus: you can take one of the numerous buses, take a train to Parliament Station, or just jump on one of the many tram lines right in front of the campus’s door.
