Tech Expo at Strathfield

November 4, 2015 – 10:24 am
ACU Library

Last week visitors were surprised to see a Game of Thrones-style chair in the entrance to Strathfield Campus Library, which was a show piece for the Medieval Fayre library festivities. This week we have an outdoor buffet serving table with an inbuilt cooler capacious enough to keep any large gathering fed and hydrated! No, this is not part of Melbourne Cup celebrations. This work, comprising three types of timber, merbau (kwila), spotted gum, radiata pine, plus gaboon marine plywood, is one of the pieces on display in the 2015 Technology Exhibition, hosted by the Library.

The exhibition showcases the work of third-year technology students in the areas of textiles, resistant materials and food technology. The works are the culmination of an industry internship during which students complete a practical technology project under the guidance of a mentor. Works range from swimming and theatrical costumes, to fashion and a range of furniture – everything from desks to dog beds – plus recipes, there’s even one for the humble sausage that gets an Aussie makeover with the inclusion of bush tucker spices.

The exhibition launched on November 3, 2014 with an event for students, their parents and Technology teaching staff. The expo will remain in the Library until November 16, so if you’re on Strathfield Campus, please stop by and view these outstanding creations.
