Resources to help you get a job after graduating

October 7, 2016 – 11:02 am

Are you graduating next year?

We’ve put together a list of resources to help you land your first graduate job

1. Choose your career path with Job Outlook

Most Bachelor degrees allow you to follow multiple career paths. The Australian Government’s Job Outlook website can help you decide which career path to follow based on industry growth, future job openings, and average weekly earnings.

2. Master your application with our resources on writing resumes and applications.

Competition for graduate roles is tight, not everyone who applies for a job gets an interview. Give yourself the best chance of landing the interview by ensuring your resume and application are excellent. Some professional jobs also require you to prepare responses to selection criteria as part of your application. Many employers provide specific instructions for these, but we’ve got extra resources to help.

3. Prepare for your interview with Factiva

Never go to an interview unprepared. Factiva allows you to search for company and industry information. You’ll go into your interview with knowledge of the latest news about your prospective employer, their financial results, and an understanding of their major competitors.

4. Upskill with training videos

Does your new role involve skills or software that you don’t have experience in? training videos can help you brush up on everything from public speaking to network administration. You can also learn how to use software packages such as Excel, Photoshop and Linux.

5. Get support from ACU’s Career Development Service

ACU students have access to the Career Development Service for help finding employment. Use their CareerHub to search for internships, employment – including jobs on campus – and volunteering opportunities, which is a great way to gain work experience and transferable skills. You can also access online career advice, register for events, or make an appointment to see a career adviser.
